Wha' cho say, baby...Play the whole night away... California Countre' ( Songologies ) California Countre' - Track ( 1 ) For the introduction to this song, I think most people just woulda pressed and held the key for the"waves" effects and left it at that - I have a tendency to do things the hard way ( it's difficult not to be" hard"- headed when you're a Bonehead :o ) Since I used to surf year-round in my younger years, I'm pretty familiar with the water ; I patched together several versions of ocean sounds, tryin' to capture a feeling as authentic and rhythmic as I could. Because I don't consider the songs I've written with a Western motif in mind necessarily classic" Country" music, it's branded with a tongue-in-cheek" Countre'" nomenclature instead. I kept the vocals kind of old and craggy on purpose, but I could see an accomplished Country Western singer possibly makin' this catchy enough to be a hit. Who knows ? Are there any misguided Johnny Cash impersonators out there ? Hope it lassoes your melodious heart just the same : ) Love for Love ( Somethin' for Nothin' ) - Track ( 2 ) The potential lyrical loopholes in this musical nightmare could be enough to drive a Wordsmith out of his or her mind ! If you start with the fist line :" She told me my Love meant Nuthin'" - It can be interpretted literally -" Love" = Nothing or, if" Love" means" Nothing", then, logically," Nothing" means" Love" which, if you'd care to join the wild-eyed Wordsmith and apply this flip-flopped logic randomly throughout the rest of the song :" I told 'er, ' Nuthin' ( Love ) will last forever, Nuthin' ( Love , ) I say ( comma ) is true, Nuthin' ( Love ) could keep us together, and Nuthin' ( Love ) is enough and good for you ' ." So, then ( as if this wasn't getting more complicated than it's worth ), in the same set of verses :" My Love is Somethin' for Nuthin' ( Love ) - So, now," Somethin' for Nuthin' ( Love )", both literally. Then, if" Somethin'" = Nuthin' ( Love ), then" Nuthin' ( Love )" =" Somethin' ( Love )"... So, again, if you were to sporadically ( or even methodically ) switch, back and forth, all of the possibilities of these double-meanings, well, you can see how ridiculous it could get ( or" is" ) ; cynical overtones on top of positive undertones, but, what the hell, it's all done in the name of...Nuthin' : ) One Born Ev 'ry Minute ( for a pretty face ) - Track ( 3 ) The Older Old Man, my father, is walkin', talkin', common sense. I wrote this song with his" Look before you leap" mentality in mind. The title is a combination of the cliche's" There's a sucker ( or" one" ) born ev 'ry minute" and" Sucker for a pretty face". This tune is riddled with cliche's, old sayings, and a nod to a legendary singer/songwriter, Hank Williams (" Hey, good lookin', whatcha got cookin' ?" ). I would have loved to have heard Kenny Rogers sing this one ; it was tailor-made for his inflectional voice. Well, anyway, hopefully this doesn't all just" Fall on deaf ears" : l Mary Go ' round - Track ( 4 ) The inspiration for this number came from a woman named Terry (" ' Terry ' Go ' round" didn't fit into the double-meaning scheme quite as nicely ). I enjoy the way that the timing of it causes me to imagine something lagging behind some kind of a leading pack and the fact that I can't recall ever hearing the expression" Lip-Primin'" before." Ore Engine Allah Tea" is the best : ) ...Well, at least some originality is. LONG GONE WRONG - Track ( 5 ) Well, I know a more discreet and judicious person wouldn't risk admitting to something that might cause a listener to gringe and avoid examining his little musical compilation altogether, but I'm a brutally honest person - The percussions in the background of this song are my hands slapping my bare belly :o EXTRA Long Gone Wrong ? ! Without You - Track ( 6 ) Not that it's of much importance, but the verses end in" About you / Without you" and then" Without you / About you". Then, after the break, in reverse order. It's like a short, little barroom song. Love Ain't Blind ( it hits my heart ev 'ry time ) - Track ( 7 ) This song represents the 2nd semi-highest, semi-elegant, and semi-cleverest level of my self-acclaimed abilities as a lyricist. It's a little off-beat and a little out-of-tune which, in my biased ( perhaps, distorted ) opinion, all comes together ( or simply dissipates ) when the clapping starts. I like to think that Cupid would be proud : ) Nothin' I can do - Track ( 8 ) I once accidentally heard James Taylor break wind - It sounded like two angels gently kissing and sighing at the same time and had the fragrance of honeysuckles and the Nantucket Sound : ) This song is about as basic and rudimentary as it gets, but HE could make it sound GREAT ! Hold Your Own - Track ( 9 ) Short and bittersweet - See Track ( 8 ) Huntin' On Halloween - Track ( 10 ) When I was a Lineman for a Communications Company, a couple of co-workers had made plans with some other friends to go on a hunting trip for deer. October 31st was part of that timeframe. Although it didn't have any of the effects I added many years later, I made them a cassette tape recording of this song for the drive there...They bagged nothing. ( Unofficial ) Mad Theme song - Track ( 11 ) I can see how someone could find offense or misinterpret this ballad because of some of the clever little quips made in the first couple sets of verses - that's just to ( intentionally )" lure them in" ; The importance is at the end of the chorus(es) and when the song turns completely dark. Whatcha gonna do ? - Track ( 12 ) I don't know, is it" Contrapuntal" or" Carpal Tunnel" ? Intro - Track ( 13 ) It's, ah...ah, a intro-duckshun, uh, to a, uh, a song...I think...uh...pret' sure it is... the Septic song - Track ( 14 ) WARNING : Repetitive use of the expression" A - Hole" and ( one time only ) the four-letter slang for" defecation". This is one of the first songs I'd ever written. In its original form, I was somehow confused about the cliche'" Knee-High to a grasshopper" that I'd partially incorporated into the lyrics ; my thinking was backwards because the original lines were :" When I was justa knee-high to an a-hole..." I recorded the second, duplicate vocal part without listening to the first ( during recording ) so that the end result would be sloppy - seemed appropriate for the theme of the song and adds more of a" live" type of vibe to it. % The tapping ( percussions ) in the background is an actual wooden washboard % Nada ( por tu ' ) - Track ( 15 ) I was goin' for a kind of 1950s feel for this one. It's pretty basic, but I like it ( Whaddaya mean," Who cares if I like it or not !" ? I asked around a little beforehand, to reassure myself that it isn't offensive to anybody. After I'd finished the instrumental parts, I was very happy when I'd recorded the lyrics on the first take - Doesn't happen that often...anyways... Es todo por tu '...Okay... para mi tambien POSTAL Vanuatu - Track ( 16 ) I had a plan to mail my nephew's daughter some" Snail Mail", in hopes of instigating an enthusiam for being able to send a letter to anyone in The United Staes of America for less than the price of a candy bar ( ! ) . During my internet research ( to find out when civilizations first began sending correspondences ), I came across" Vanuatu Post" - The World's First Official and only UNDERWATER Post Office. ( It's mostly just a fun gimmick for tourists ) I tried, on several occasions, to purchase one of the specialized underwater postcards over the internet so that I could have it mailed to my nephew's daughter ( after she had received my" regular" letter first ), but for some unknown reason, my electronic form submissions and emails wouldn't go through : ( I ended up sending her a letter, casually mentioning something about" packages" at the end of it, and then mailed her a box with a few little girlie items along with a CD of this song and the next two Tracks. Doesn't this story just make you wanna splash around with delight ?...No ?...Oh...What ?... Vanuatu Post - Tracks ( 17 ) and ( 18 )" Vanuatu" is such an inherently fun word to say, the lyrics and melody just flowed out of me. Unfortunately, because of a postal-related delay ( cited on Track [ 16 ]'s info ), by the time I revamped the melody and lyrics, it had been so long that I had remembered the title name wrong ( ! ) Instead of" Vanuatu", I was singing" Vanatua" - I actually wrote the verses for Part One after I'd discovered my mistake and then just added" ah's" to" Vanuatu" in Part Two. I planned on re-recording the screechy guitar parts I ended up with, but once again, chose to manipulate a self-serving justification ; claiming that it gives it a" beachy" kind of sound ; as if the guitar strings have been subjected to a regular onslaught of wind, sand, and the spray of the ocean ( ! ) Anyway, I think, if you're able to muster enough intelligence and tolerability to get past it, they're sort of fun tunes ( that's why I couldn't seem to let myself stop at only one part ). The final ending was almost as much work as the other parts - Even though it's certainly not perfect, it took a little finess, for instance, to make it sound as if the barking dog is scarin' away the seagulls. Anyway, I hope you'll be able to enjoy at least some aspects of these little aquatic wonders : ) It all comes 'round - Track ( 19 ) Not the kind of song you want to listen to if you're in a hurry ( ! ). It may drag on a bit, but I'm satistied with the way the word play" all comes"...together, plus, the vocals were about the best I could do at the time. If you were to listen to it before I added everything else to the original guitar and vocals, out of pity, I think you might be able to develop a small affection for it... It's Best Wishes for inspirational wishes... Play The Whole Nite Away - Track ( 20 ) Rudimentary Old School ( ? )
