The Monarchy's (Michael B Allen & Todd Davidson) first attempt - an concept album that spans genres but maintains unity throughout. The album contains an appropriate blend of creative experiment and popular appeal.Tracks 1-6 make up the more light-hearted Part A. The album continues with a more serious, heavy Part B, tracks 7-14. Wake Up, Wake Up (1), an ambient rock anthem transitions into Quit Yourself (2), an upbeat track blending modern indie and old school rock n roll feels. Brass (3) builds from a simple bass line that eventually gives way to a big finish to the track that moves into Sunrise(4), Look:It's the Son(5), and Wake Up the Giant(6), a three-song medley that flows from acoustic folk to a Beatles influenced rock n roll party to a more experimental, but still upbeat title track.Part B is introduced by the highly electronic tracks, Sweetness, Lost (7), an ambient trip, and Can You Find Love (8), an anthem with r&b/hiphop influences. Can You Find Love trails into the harder, angst-filled Save(9) which ends in the hidden experimental track"Breathe So Soft." Special(10) pulls down the mood with a Bob Dylan-esque folk song before picking back up with the anthemic Attention!(11). The acoustic songs, The Electric Line(12) and The Blue Room(13), provide the subtle, rising action before the big conclusion to the album, Are You Waking Up?(14)Davidson's production and Allen's songwriting create something new. Wake Up the Giant! is a project with a scope rarely attempted by big label rock bands, much less unsigned indie acts. Truly, Wake Up the Giant! if nothing else, speaks of big possibilities for this group.
