Musicians from the Netherlands playing African rooted music? Yes! No wonder the title of this album is 'Afrikaas', referring to Afrika and kaas (Dutch words for Africa and cheese). Tenor saxophonist Ruud de Vries from the Netherlands has always been inspired by the great crossover saxophonist & composer Manu Dibango from Kameroon. Like Manu Dibango, Ruud de Vries explores all kinds of music and incorporates this in his music and way of playing. With his Afrojazz band 'Ungawa', Ruud de Vries combines Afrobeat and other African music with jazz improvisation, funk, latin and rock.
