However, just as everyone else, I was shocked when presented with the sad, sad news of Whinehouse's death. At first I wondered why it is I only knew one song (Rehab) by the late artist. I decided to look further in her catalogue - which ultimately was a bad idea. The music was just so great that the sadness I felt by the artist that left us too soon was exacerbated ten-fold. She had such talent and her death was a heavy shame. While I could spend the rest of my 5400 characters lamenting about her, that would not be how she would want us to remember her. She also would not like for us to remember her by the daily tabloids (living in the US I was largely exempt from). She would like us to remember her for her timeless talent that is presented here in a beautiful duet with the equally talented Tony Bennett. As such, it may seem apt to leave you with the old adage: You never know what you got 'till its gone. But for the case of Whinehouse I feel she said it best when she uttered:"If I died tomorrow, I would be a happy girl." And that is how we should remember her, how this final song wants us to remember her - as the troubled soul who died happily with the knowledge that she was making all our lives just a little better.
