I chose"LEVIATHAN" as the colossal title for my CD for several reasons. First, the album is such a large compilation of the best recordings I’ve produced after many years in the music business. And second, I do not want the compositions to become"endangered” of extinction like the magnificent blue sea creatures.For quite some time I’ve felt that I owed you, my fans, family and friends, a collection of my music. And now … Here it is! The Program Act 1 - “Solo Piano” - I grew up just outside Washington DC in Bethesda MD. Thanks to my Mom, Birney, I started piano lessons at the age of five and continued for over 10 years. Piano enthusiasts, Act 1 is for you! Act 2 - ”The Band Joins In” - begins with “LEVIATHAN”. The title track was recorded at The Record Plant in Sausalito CA with the help of legendary producer Bob Johnston. The next two songs are from a studio project with vocalist, musician and audio engineer Zoe Ravenwood. The final piece is by an innovative band named “Strutt”. Act 3 -"Carlton's Canvas" - consists of four selections that were recorded solo in my home studio on a 24-track Tascam recorder. I wanted to experiment further with digital sounds and synthesizers to write and develop more creative compositions. I also refer to Act 3 as my"Homegrown Studio". Act 4 - “Carlton and Keith” - I started playing with Keith (Keke) McCullough after moving to Austin Texas. Working at The Record Plant with Bob Johnston and renowned keyboardist Robbie Buchanan resulted in life changing studio sessions for Keith and I. Our enduring friendship and songwriting collaboration spanned many years until he passed away. The Act concludes with “Leviathan Lament” a short, moving composition we wrote about the whales. Act 5 - “Finale” - I wanted a song to end the collection on a high note while still exiting with a suspended, mysterious edge. The sultry Henry Mancini classic “The Pink Panther Theme” fit the bill perfectly. My friends ... I am so grateful for your support of my career and belief in me. I could not have done this CD without you! I hope that you enjoy this varied collection of new music and old favorites as much as I have enjoyed creating it for you!I want to dedicate this release to my late, great friend Keith McCullough.
