Klara Sourlier and Pietro Finazzi have developed a repertoire of amazing pieces, consisting of a subtle mixture of depth and joy.With their various instruments, some less well known, and their jewish, celtic, slavic, japanese and chinese dance melodies, they hope to unite people all over the world in mind and heart, through their music.Pietro Finazzi, of Italian descent, has accomplished his studies of classical guitar at the Academy of Music in Piacenza, Italy. Later on he started to play different types of instruments, like the"Lute", the"Gittern" and the"Vihuela de mano" as well as the"Kora".Klara Sourlier grew up in a musical Swiss family where she was introduced to the Recorder, the Piano and the Violin. Later she started to play the"Hammer Dulcimer" and also the"Kora".On this CD you can hear the following instruments:– Classical Guitar– Flute made out of a cow-horn with a velvet-like, deep sound– Descant Recorder– Two Koras, which are a very old kind of harp-lute. African narrators accompany their songs with this type of harp when they spread news from village to village.– Gittern, an instrument of the Middle-Ages, the precursor of the mandoline. It is sculpted out of one single piece of wood with decorations depicting other, different types of wood.– Two different types of Hammer Dulcimer. The Hammer Dulcimer is an instrument which existed already in theMiddle-Age. You can find it on glass paintings, played by angels. It's name was Psaltérion when it was plucked with the fingers, or a Hammer-Dulcimer when it was beaten with little hammers. Today it is an instrument which is played in folk music the world over, but especially in Eastern-Europe, in Romania, Hungary, Turkey, Russia, and also in India and China. Its"bigger brother" is the Cymbalum of the gypsies. Each nation has their own tunes and special names for it.On this CD you can hear two different types of Hammer-Dulcimer. One is constructed in Switzerland. It has 5 strings of copper for each note. That gives it a magic timbre with a strong amplified sound. The other one is made in France with only 2 strings of steel for each note. It's timbre is drier-sounding which evokes an atmophere of bygone days. Youcan hear this instrument in track number 10, 15 and 19.
