So much of what happens in music is about playing a character or putting on an armor. This album gets its title because it’s exactly the opposite. The art takes off its armor. There is no character. It’s hip hop. It’s spoken word. It’s poetry. It’s ambitious. It’s honest. It’s a banger. The Aggressively Vulnerable project is half music and half book. The album covers a lot of ground. It’s got short songs, long songs, traditionally structured songs, wtf-is-the-structure-of-that-song songs, and a couple of poems. The book contains all the lyrics, liner notes, and an essay called"Art and Activism in the Age of Fear and Censorship."It’s academic. It’s colloquial. It’s a misfit toy that doesn’t fit in easily. It’s hard to categorize. It’s so very New Orleans, and so very not New Orleans simultaneously.
