Based in San Diego, the Midwinters are fronted by Paul Donovan, formerly of a band called Dryve, and Josh Hagquist, formerly of the Beautiful Mistake -- who also happen to be brothers-in-law. The others are Erik Ekdahl (drums, vocals), Matt Cliff (bass), and keyboardist Chris Hobson. With four songwriters/singers, they’ve got a diverse bunch of influences, from Wilco to Ben Folds, to Big Star, Ryan Adams, and Bowie. They've been playing shows around San Diego and SoCal since 2006, merging their musical tastes into something like garage-y power pop.The Hinges EP is the band's first, produced by keyboardist Hobson and focusing on 5 songs that have been honed in their live set for 4 years. And there's more on the way.
