Cocytus is the result of a passion for death metal music. A studio project and concept album based on the hell depicted within literature's Dante's Inferno, it serves as a brutal depiction of the nine circles of hell and Dante's journey through them. What he sees. What he tastes. The flayed and tortured souls along his path and the bloody massacres within the realms of darkness. Pulling influence from bands like Bloodbath, Cannibal Corpse, Amon Amarth, Behemoth and Carcass, Cocytus crafts its own brutal melodic death metal sound. All of the original material was written by myself, Phil King, and vocals were outsourced to a local session vocalist in the Austin, TX area. All of the lyrics, patterns and depictions of the literature are also my own. Cocytus ultimately comprises of the kind of melodic death metal I love to listen to, and based it on a concept befitting a brutal composition. Solid grooves, head bang inducing riffs and dual vocal attacks overlay on a thick, melodic guitar sound, complimented with blast beats and hammering double bass.
