"Emily's basement" was recorded at Laster studios in Portland, Oregon in 2000. It was Catholic School Girls second full length album and is now being rereleased for the first time in 10 years for digital download and streaming. The album title was derived from the place the majority of the songs where written, in the basement of their friend Emily's house in Salem, Oregon."Emilys Basement" was a departure from Catholics School Girls first release, 1994s"Zero", due to Catholic School Girls new approach to song writing which was generally simpler to play and less-experimental but adds the complexity of two to four part vocal harmanies on many of the tracks. Their new found love for swing music can also be heard sprinkled through out the recordings, although heavy and fast to say the least. Even though the lyrics can sometimes hit a synical tone, the general idea as the songs where conceived was to keep the songs syterical, fun, and filled with dark and light humor. On the other hand, songs such as"Stand" and"Meatwrench" strike a more serious note with content that references both their love of friends and trials they have faced.Catholic School Girls suggests listening to Emilys Basement Loud, with good or bad humor, and a grain of salt.
