It has been awhile since Rachel has released new music, but she is excited to finally be able to share her new EP, “American Made”. With years of touring under her belt, consisting of hundreds of shows and thousands of miles on the road, Rachel was reminded of how fragile life can be…and how everything can change in split second. Heading back from a show in Savannah, Georgia in late 2013, she and her band were involved in a horrific accident with a drunk driver. Thankfully, no lives were lost…but it forced the band off the road for some time as they recovered from injuries and worked to replace all of their equipment. The accident also helped the band to refocus their efforts, and provided inspiration for the “American Made” album. “After we recovered, we had time to reflect on the situation, and it was obvious to us that there was a greater plan for all of us. Our bond as a band grew much stronger, and we immediately started writing the new album” says Timberlake. “With greater inspiration and passion, we set forth to make an album that was straight from the heart, a culmination of the struggles that we have faced, as well as the values that were instilled in me at a young age, and most importantly…music that just felt good to us. Is it country…is it southern rock…or is it mid-western rock? According to Rachel, “We really don’t want to necessarily put a label on it. I’m sure people may try to classify it as one of those styles, but for me, it’s just who I am.” The bluesy, fiddle laced southern rock tunes are sung by a voice, gritty yet clear; a voice that will make you feel that it has lived what it sings. The overall feel recalls the era of country music’s powerful female voices like Tanya or Wynonna, but there is also a grit and edge that gives it a classic southern rock feel. Ironically, the band finished recording the new album exactly one year to the week after being involved in the accident. Though it is hard to wrap this style into one genre or another, that’s a good thing…because it is uniquely Rachel Timberlake.
