In 2006, poet Asia Samson battled cancer. In 2008, he suffered with his wife through a miscarriage. In 2012, he lost his sister to a brain tumor. In 2013, his wife gave birth to their first child. Through it all, one thing remained constant: the human touch.It has the power to heal in times of pain and it has the power to celebrate in times of joy. With a single touch, we form a bond whether briefly or for life. This is what this album is about. With this album, Asia tells the story of himself and his family and all they've been through. He shares his struggles and his triumphs. It is as transparent as it gets- taking you into the stories of his life through poetry in hopes that listeners can relate those stories with their own experiences and realize they are not alone.But it's not just poetry. Taking those words, guitarist Jollan Aurelio and violinist Marie Artecona forms the most beautiful and swelling music around them to take audiences on a ride seldom experienced with poetry. All combined, the album will weave its listeners through emotions they may have left dormant in the corners of their hearts.Funded by Kickstarter backers, this album is truly a collaborative work of the people. They wanted it this way because to call it Touch, it's only fitting that all those involved touched the album somehow. Taking it a step further, they also recorded the album in hotel rooms during their 400 college tour and allowed the ambient noises to come through so that the listener can feel as though they were there- as though they could touch the performance.We live in a world that is polished. We live in a world that must produce things that are so clean and so sterile that we are afraid to go near it and touch it. The Asia Project aims to change that. This album is meant to sound as it does- as raw and as unfiltered as the things we create with our hands. In doing so, the result is a product that is within our grasp and invites us to experience it with all of our senses.
