Deer Meet was formed circa 2008 around the nucleus of Jimmy Angelina and Troy Williams. They had been the rhythm section (bass and drums, respectively) of a band called Carolina. Carolina had dissolved, but Troy and Jimmy kept in touch, and Troy---who ran a home recording studio---offered to help Jimmy record a batch of songs he’d stockpiled. In the process, they realized that they’d started a band. Over the next few years the line-up fluctuated (bass: Matt Fleitz, bass: Scott Nethery) until the current line-up emerged---which includes Morgan Keator, who’d also been in that band Carolina, from a few sentences ago. Three albums have been recorded and released, with the forthcoming third album being released physically via the local Better Days Records label, run by the inimitable Ben Jones. Jimmy came to Louisville from New York City, where he’d played in some bands (as a drummer)---including one led by Australians (‘that‘s not a plectrum, this is a plectrum!’), and one including a current star of the television series Game Of Thrones (this is true). In the year 2000, he relocated to Louisville---for all the usual reasons. Louisville is rich with gifted and unique musicians. Jimmy was lucky enough to meet and work with a bunch of them. Which brings us back---more or less--- to where we started this precis. The current line-up has been extant since the latter part of 2011, and has played shows locally opening for The Whigs and The Lemonheads (and Sebadoh, a bit earlier, with a different line-up). Over the past many months, they’ve been recording the third album (Drums & Impressions), with drummer/multi-instrumentalist Nicholas Layman at the helm---producing, engineering and overseeing with considerable verve and inventiveness. This new album has been the most collaborative yet, and each band member brings something distinctive to the pot. Four flavors, one Deer Meet.Fun Fact!: Drums & Impressions is a reference to Peter Sellers’ first business card as an entertainer--announcing what his skills were.
