Patterns in Traffic is the music of Maryland musician and songwriter Kyle Simons. Kyle spent five years self-recording and producing his debut album, Silhouetting, in basements and bedrooms from 2010-2015. This is a “solo album” in every sense of the word. Kyle had a little help from friends and family, but for the most part he wrote, recorded, played, and sang every part of every song.The story of the album, in Kyle's own words:"Ever since I found a connection with music, I have been a fan of the album format. A collection of songs that take the listener on a journey, with all of the ups and downs and twists and turns along the way. Since my earliest days of playing music, I always thought that there could be no greater personal accomplishment than to have a full-length album to my name. By 2010, I had a handful of my own songs that had been accumulating, and I saved enough from my first six months of steady paychecks to purchase some recording equipment. The summer of 2010 was spent working through a textbook to learn recording in Logic. By January of 2011, my first song, “How Far,” was posted online.Since then, I have gone through plenty of growth and change in my life, all while continuing to spend what free time I could find working toward this goal. I am immensely proud of the end result.The vision has changed a bit over the years, and I feel that I have grown as a musician, producer, and songwriter over that time. The spirit of the album is the same as it was when I first set out on this journey five years ago at the tender age of 23. It is about love and loss and everything that we go through in our relationships with each other. It is a bit eclectic in style, and that is by design. My mindset was to try everything, because this may be the only album that I ever create.
