Emerging Hong Kong band, The Gatling Gun Revival (commonly abbreviated as “GGR”) have just released their debut full-length album on November 23 2013. The self-titled LP consists of nine heartfelt original songs that showcase the band's highly charged brand of folk-country fused with indie rock. The three-piece band is now into their second year, having played their first show in April 2012. Among the highlights from the previous year include an appearance at Clockenflap music festival's main stage, being crowned the Hong Kong winner of Hard Rock Cafe's “Hard Rock Rising” global band competition, as well as being a Top 10 finalist for Rode Microphone's “Rode Rocks” music video competition with over 5000 bands participating worldwide. Gathering ideas in their spare time and eager to get their hands on any instrument they can find, they aim to write genuine, introspective songs about love, loss, hope, regret and everything in between.Historically, the gatling gun was one of the first rapid fire weapons and the forerunner to the modern machine gun. On the surface, the band uses this metaphor to pay homage to the bygone eras of rock music from which a lot of their influences can be found. The sounds of bands like The Beatles, and Simon & Garfunkel as well as early southern gospel and country music serve as sources of inspiration for the album. But their name also carries a deeper meaning rooted within Hong Kong. Although one of the most developed cities in the world, Hong Kong is also among the most stressful, where many experience the pressures to achieve and face fierce competition for opportunities. The band's response to these surroundings is a simple one: Forgetting about the complexities of life even for just a moment is a good thing, and playing music for its intrinsic value can revive your soul. They hope that The Gatling Gun Revival can stand as a reminder that materials should not be everything, and to never desert your passions.GGR is vocalist/guitarist Corey Tam, vocalist/percussionist Zane Stroud, and guitarist Erik Piece.
