Wade runs the Lakewood Piano Lab were he teaches private and small group piano lessons to students in the Dallas, Texas area. Some history, Robert started playing Handpans about three years ago. In 2010 Robert started posting art video shorts and asked Wade if he was interested in providing the sound tracks which he does. Wade then asked Robert in 2015 if they could do a duo with the handpans which Robert agreed to. Wade and Robert have not played together in person since the college days, which was decades ago, and is also the last time they saw each other in person. Robert posted some Handpan tracks, Wade added keyboard and sound effects and then he mastered the tracks. A long distance (over 600 miles between locations) album was produced with the artists never meeting and/or being in the same geographical state.Wade CottinghamThis music seems unique. We are not sure what it sounds like. It feels like a journey. I like listening to it in the foreground, to really listen, and also as background, while cleaning up my studio, or for falling asleep. I like listening to it on big speakers or in the car or on my phone. In creating it, we followed these guidelines: Robert could record any kind of handpan track he wanted. Wade could hear the track and add anything he wanted. I recently invested in a nice collection of software instruments to use in Logic Pro and really enjoyed experimenting with them on this project. And I know Robert really enjoys playing his handpans. Naturally a few of our collaborations did not work and had to be trashed. In this album, we've collected and refined our favorite ones that did work. We love the sound of this journey and this path, and hope you enjoy hearing it. Even though there are no words, I hope this music tells little stories of mystery and freedom, whatever that means.
