A STATEMENT FORM EONA... I wanted to create something new and different for the musical world, so I invented several unique instruments and tried to get away from the normal guitar, bass and drums."Many people have asked how I got started, in music and inventing and making musical instruments.When in elementary school I sang with the choir. By age 15, I was performing vocals and drums with a friend in Alberta, Canada. Soon after, I left home and began traveling internationally. In my later teens I made bamboo flutes and wooden drums in Southern Mexico and Guatemala. For the next few years I lived in Columbia, Equador, Peru and Bolivia and made modest living performing in hundreds of indian villages.With my arrival here on Maui in 1980 I started making string instruments. Sometimes I have a rough idea of what instrument I am going to make while at other times I let the creative flow take me some place new. My belief is that every instrument takes a musician to a particular musical mental place. This place is important to me and I love finding new locations. All my creations are hand made without power tools. This translates into weeks of sanding and gluing. As part of this journey I built the biggest guitar in the world for the famous person"Willie Nelson". The guitar named; BIGGER TRIGGER; is 12 feet long and weighs 170pounds.Until this CD, BEST OF EONA, my most recent recording was 27 years ago. The two main reasons for this long hiatus was my love of the Hawaiian Islands and my lack of desire to travel to the L.A music scene.As of the present time, I have not ventured to the Mainland since 1984. I live an extremely simple life in some aspects. For over 32 years I have done without a refrigerator, hot water, t.v, electricity, computer or phone. When people find out how I live they always ask me,"how do you do it".The answer is simply my love of working and living close to nature ; a big garden all year round, a beautiful river and waterfalls, numerous artistic endeavors to fill my days and nights, a never ending immigration of exciting and talented people who come to Maui from all over the world and finally a loving and kind mate.Thank you very much if you choose to download some of my music.
