by Stephen Thomas ErlewineAlthough it occasionally sounds a little ordinary, Athenaeum's debut album is an appealing collection of jangly, melodic post-grunge that draws equally from R.E.M. and its offspring. The songs may be a little uneven, but when they get their hooks together, as on the single"What I Didn't Know," the group has a ragged, catchy charm that bodes well for their future.
