Stereo 8000 is a new name for Finland's punk-rock couple number 1. Anssi 8000 and Maria Stereo. Nearly with every release, stage incarnation they've come up with a new name for their project. What remains is the set-up and musically a strong character of their own. Steady consistency: It's some kind of rock music, noise pop, indie pop, post-punk, lo-fi. They like their edges rough, they like the duet vocals more and more. Actually with"Stereo 8000" album, their third, you get those duets more then ever, delivered in their most energetic way. Yes, they like the screaming. They are singing their hearts out in an unpretentious way. Their slightly off-kilter harmony vocals are becoming the duo's most distinctive elements, along with Anssi's foot-pedal-beats, Maria's Organ, distorted bass guitar riffing and twangy guitars. still all noise is in control and the songs, hooks and arrrangements keep some pop sensibility, their own Sahalahti country side style, far away from the big city lights and scenes and sounds. Mountain / Valley This lonely country side spirit is also mirrored on the cover photo and the pattern-like grafic (by Bone Voyage artworker Jussi S. Karjalainen). For the recordings they went from the village to the city (Helsinki) and spend a few days at 22-Pistepirkko studio Altai, together with French engineer Léo Fourastier. But don't worry, nothing shiny about this... The new album, their third is also ending their musical hiatus (since 2008). If they don't do music they do art, so this punk rock hiatus was heavily filled with successful family and art matters (eg. Fennica prize for Anssi Kasitonni, international exhibitions and film screenings, art DVD and book releases).
