My name is Steven G. Lawrence; I was raised in Sacramento California. It was a rough road growing up in a poor neighborhood, but it taught me the importance of strife. It taught me that great things in life can’t be obtained without a fight. It takes hard work and diligence to claim any kind of success; which sometimes just meant being successful at staying alive. I knew from a very young age that in order to be successful there were certain things that I would have to stay clear of: drugs, alcohol, and bad influences. The kind of neighborhood that I was raised in had certain kind of suffering among the poor people that I didn’t like. Younger people from broken homes were just looking to be a part of something, struggling to fit in. It would have been easier to find peace in a bottle or even by altering my perception of reality with drug use. I chose a different outlet… singing and writing songs. I have been writing songs since I was 7 years old. I have been inspired by artist like Michael Jackson, Babyface, Tim McGraw, and Phil Collins. My style is hard to classify, sometimes my songs sound Pop and sometimes R&B. Some people have even compared me to a Soft Rock and County sound.
