The RemedyThe Remedy is a simple dance song but it holds a lot of meaning for me. This was a song written for my friends who graduated and were still looking for work, who were fighting immigration battles, and facing personal struggles.The secret reference in the track is the chorus chord progression. It was also used in Cream's song 'Tales of Brave Ulysses', the opening lyric of which is 'you thought the leaden winter, would bring you down forever..', which is another reference to the winter of 2016.Beats Can't DoneBeats Can't Done evolves rhythmically using a number of different beats and three different tempos. It's a fun ride to perform, a party song and a DC song.IrieIrie is the first song we worked on together. The song is about being the immigrant experience, and and trying to stay positive whatever life throws at you.The swirling ring-modulated synthesizers at the beginning were inspired by the opening of the song 'Caribbean Power' by BOMBA ESTEREO, which ties back to the lyrical concept of our song.The 'hair metal' guitar solo in the instrumental section was originally put in as a joke, but Phil and Chris liked it so it stayed.Repeat SelectaChris and Barrie wrote the lyrics to Repeat Selecta in the summer of 2016. For me it recalls watching the band Aztec Sun at Tropicalia in 2015. It's a happy song connected with good memories.Like other songs on the EP, the track was mixed and mastered by Yoad Nevo in the UK. Yoad lately produced for Sia, and was responsible for the tub-thumping floor toms in the chorus, which were accented in a way that makes them sound a little like the chorus of the song 'Cheap Thrills'..In the climax of the track, with two harmonized guitars that weave around one another in a way that is supposed to suggest a couple dancing. Meanwhile, the synthesizer plays a melody of mixed quotations, half from the song 'Un día en Nueva York' by Los Hermanos Rosario, and half a snippet from the Venezuelan anthem.
