Jasper de Moor’s recent 2016 effort ‘Up And Down The Waves’ symbolizes the journey of the pursuit of happiness. The album title was inspired by a quote by Craig Finn : “Depression is an ocean, it’s prone to tides and swells”. Each of de Moor’s songs represent a different state of being. Whereas most of the songs describe a longing for ‘living where the sun always shines’ and ‘swimming in deep blue seas’, the album also explores some heavier themes such as social anxiety and feeling disconnected from modern society. Sonically, de Moor’s recent effort sounds comforting and upbeat, and can be compared to artists such as Jack Johnson or José Gonzalez. The message de Moor conveys in ‘Up And Down The Waves’ is that even though some days can seem dark, sometimes, taking in a few deep breaths is all you need.
