After releasing two well received E.P.s Shift release their debut album 'Music For Atheists' an album that spans several metal genres and is themed around Atheism and Anti-theism. 'Music For Atheists' takes it's inspiration directly from modern day proponents of reason such as Christopher Hitchens, Richard Dawkins and Carl Sagan among others. The lyrical content takes aim at the futility and oppressiveness of organised religion and it's lust for greed, and power over the people it has a grip on.It's hoped that the album will add to the fast growing voices of descent against religion whilst promoting reason. All proceeds from the sale of the album will go to Doctors Without Borders, a charity that gives humanitarian aid to people in crises all over the world. The charity remains impartial to political movements and seeks to help people in need regardless of race, religion or creed, sometimes in highly volatile situations. The opening track 'All Reason Gone' is a fast paced track tacking it's cue from early speed and thrash metal bands'Cult of Obey' starts out much more laid back with an almost bluesy edge and a long instrumental interlude before building towards it's hard-hitting end.'Morality (God Is Dead)' is a roller coaster of a song at almost 10 minutes long, weaving through soft melodic verses before jumping into discordant arrhythmic riff patterns.'Pale Blue Dot' takes direct inspiration from Carl Sagans' book of the same title, exploring the sense of awe one can feel when we realise our place in the universe - that we are not the centre of the universe and pale into insignificance when placed in the context of the universe.'Black As Death' and 'W.A.R' add a darker, more sinister feel to the mix by incorporating slower more doom laden riffs and heavier vocals, whilst 'The Lunacy Of Faith' and 'From Worms To Maggots' add a more modern metal vibe.'An Atheists Anthem' finishes off the album with an appeal to reason and a nod to the fallen free-thinkers that have showed the way for modern day atheists.
