The Scandalmongers are a rock and roll band from Evansville, Indiana. Formed in 2008, the group incorporates aspects of progressive rock, punk pop, and acoustic rock. The band is composed of vocalist and guitarist Reid Chancellor, drummer Dylan Woodall, backing guitarist Logan Patburg, and bassist Chase Keller. The group formed in high school when Chancellor and Woodall lived on the same street, making it convenient for them to practice together. The band featured Chancellor on vocals and guitar, Woodall on drums, and Chancellor's long time friend, Matt Kohl, on bass. The resulting trio was then named “D is for Danger.”It was Kohl who suggested changing the name. “The Scandal-mongering British” was a phrase in found in his text book and thus produced the current name “The Scandalmongers” for the band.Evansville’s local scene was dominated by the hardcore music genre. The Scandalmongers broke the mold when they experimented with a multitude of different musical styles, including punk rock, indie rock, and acoustic rock. They landed their first show and quickly became a hit sensation and a breath of fresh air in the ears of the people.Kohl's career in the band was short lived when he resigned to join the army in July of 2009. Chancellor and Woodall then began the search for a new bassist. Chase Keller, a friend and classmate, was then asked to play bass in Kohl's spot for a show. His skills were impressive and was confirmed a permanent member.After three demo EPs, the band finally set out to record their first full length. Gary Martinez mixed and mastered their album, Dangerous Kids in 2011 bringing the band a strong following and radio play. Their most popular songs from this album include: “Already Know”, “Right Way”, and “The Ultimatum”.Their newest album, Child Songs, released in August. The new album was recorded by long time friend and producer/engineer Rory Brown, at his studio in Hendersonville, TN. The music for the album was collected over the course of around one year. After they recorded a short 5 song EP the band repeated 3 songs and began writing new materials. The band then discovered a constant theme going on in the music, they noticed most of the songs content was related to becoming an adult. They then decided to tittle the album"Child Songs", after the second to last track on the record. After a 3 month recording process, the album was finally done. The band, along with newest Member Logan Patberg took it upon themselves to book a large CD release show for the end of August. Chancellor emailed friends and bands from around the areas and made the show with 2 locals, 2 touring acts and then The Scandalmongers. The show had a huge turnout, nearly selling out the venue. They continue to write and play shows in their hometown as well as other cities. They begun very little work on their next project" The Uglies."
