Atlanta’s The Blacktop Rockets always focus on the important part of rockabilly: The music. Their new album Go! is a nearly perfect collection of roots rock, honky-tonk, and rave ups. Veterans of the redneck underground, frontman Dave Weil and guitarist Johnny McGowan are supported by Dave “Zod” Watkins on drums, and Steve Stone on bass and steel. The elements fall confidently into place – backbeat riffs, trucker tunes, blasting guitars, all at a quick and constant energy level that captures the magic. Elvis, Johnny, and Jerry Lee would be proud.
