In his latest album, guitarist/songwriter Charlie Read explores a gentler, predominantly acoustic style - but with enough tasteful electric guitar flourishes to satisfy fans of his previous work. From the fingerstyle"Perfect Way" with lyrics from the Psalms, to the Beatles-like"Happy Is The Man" (with some tasty guitar work a la Queen's Brian May) the artist's lyrics and musicianship shine through on this compilation. Guest vocalist Casey Powell sings of a girl who still suffers from the memories of past torment in"Kathie Lynn," and Zane Ellenwood takes the lead vocal on"Shades of Gray," a ballad with a deeper message beneath the surface."Perfect Way" is a collection of insightful tunes with an undercurrent of worship and the joy of the Lord, although the path through the album's lyrical content sometimes detours into some sobering and challenging areas. For fans of Phil Keaggy, the Beatles, Eagles, Keith Green, PFR - and Charlie's previous CDs - this project is sure to satisfy.
