Jacob Rodriguez is a thirty-something musician, originally from Texas but after pit stops across the Southeast, Southwest, and Midwest, now resides in Madison, Wisconsin. Despite his many travels, Jacob's music is arguably more influenced by the decade his was born in, the Seventies, versus any specific region of the US.Jacob started playing piano as a little one, call it sometime between 2 and 4, but must not have been a virtuoso as neither his teachers nor his family put up much of a fight when he decided to quit his formal lessons a few years later. Jacob showed a little more promise on various brass instruments during his junior high and high school years though he'd tell you himself, he was certainly above average as a player but there was always someone around who could play circles around him. About this same time, Jacob started teaching himself to play the 6 string guitar which eventually led him to the electric bass. After a few years practicing, gigging, and building equipment rigs for both instruments, Jacob began to focus more and more on the bass guitar as it became increasingly clear that his overall musicality and sight-reading abilities gave him a leg up on many of his peers and allowed him to approach the instrument in a unique manner. Thus, musically speaking, Jacob spent his twenties primarily gigging as a bass player and back-up singer, playing in rock bands, musical pits, jazz combos, big band orchestras, praise and worship bands, and occasional pick-up gigs in other genres such as country, Dixieland, Latin, etc.Additionally, during all of the various instrument changes, cities of residence, bands, etc., Jacob has also created a substantial catalog of original music, typically written on piano or guitar, though some of his most popular melodies got their start as bass lines. His latest release, Echoing Off My Shoes, features Jacob on all of the instruments noted above and was produced in tandem with Cody Lindsey, his longest and most-trusted musical collaborator. Cody also contributed some of the albums most stunning guitar leads and introduced Jacob to the album's featured drummer, Geoff Compton.
