Come Into My HouseWithLainie NelsonAndAndy Howe on PianoCOME INTO MY HOUSE and meet the songs I love to sing. These songs may not be familiar to you, but they are very dear friends of mine. We’ve been playing together at my piano for several years. This album started out as a sort of tribute to John Wallowich, who for many years entertained New York Cabaret audiences with his brilliant, witty, and often poignant songs. He wrote both the music and the lyrics with tremendous skill and musicianship. Before I embarked on this album, I called Mr. Wallowich and had a long delightful conversation with him about the songs I had chosen. He was thrilled that someone was going to do them again. And I was thrilled he was so enthused that I was doing them. He suggested a song of his I wasn’t familiar with, “Come Into My House”, and promptly sent the music along. It became the inspiration and title for this recording. As the recording progressed, I kept thinking I should call him and give him progress reports, but I never got around to it. Ironically just as I finished this recording on August 15, 2007, John Wallowich died suddenly in New York City on that very same day. Nine of his songs are represented here. It’s taken me this long to recover from that and release this album. I hope he would approve, and…I should have called. It is my honor and pleasure to invite you to COME INTO MY HOUSE with me and the brilliant Andy Howe at the piano to experience these songs…many I imagine for the first time.In addition to John Wallowich, I have included songs by David Ross, Barry Manilow, Johnnie Mercer, Amanda McBroom and Michele Brourman. These writers and many more like them continue to write beautiful thoughtful music and intelligent lyrics for singers like me to feast on.
